Laundry Safety Tips

At Home

Here’s a lot for parents to think about in keeping kids safe around the home. Furniture and TVs need to be strapped to the walls, pot handles need to be turned away from the edge while cooking and cleaners under sinks need to be locked up and kept out of sight and reach. But what about what’s happening in the laundry room? More and more families are using liquid laundry packets instead of detergent, and those packets pose a serious risk to children. Poison control centers received 11,528 calls for laundry packet incidents in 2016 alone, and 1- and 2-year-old children are at greatest risk of poisonings.

To help parents remember all the important steps to take in keeping their kids safe, we’ve developed a new interactive graphic focusing on a range of risks in the home. Developed with support from Tide, this special 360-degree feature takes parents inside a safe home, showing some of the issues parents may have missed during their childproofing process.

What do you look for when childproofing your home? Remember to look for emerging risks like TV tip-overs, button batteries and liquid laundry packets. @Safe Kids Worldwide and @Tide are giving us a 360 degree look inside a safe home to keep track of some the risk areas you might have missed.
