Troop 6189 Reviews Summer Safety and Injury Prevention

Girl Scout Troop 6189 from Riverview Elementary School, took the time to review initiatives they can take to be safer this summer when riding a bicycle, driving in a car, walking and swimming. KJ Feury the coordinator from Northern NJ Safe Kids / Safe Communities highlighted some safety devices that are a must. These included the use of helmets, seatbelts and PFD’s / Life Jackets. The scouts also reviewed the recommended behaviors that should be practiced when walking.

“Injury Prevention does take some planning”, noted Feury, “but injuries still can occur”. This is where the scouts were able to review, calling 911, seen safety and stopping the bleeding.

The scouts, learned how to identify an emergency, apply direct pressure and how to pack a wound to minimize bleeding and how to immobilize a an injury to an upper extremity.

The scouts giggled, laughed and had some fun, while learning a few important safety initiatives they can use throughout their lives.
